Greetings and Aloha.
I got (gratefully) distracted after only about 5 minutes of a “planned” 30 minute drive by on of my favorite signs: A old piece of wood, nailed to a post, hand-painted with the word “Beach” on it.
So, the ride I had planned from Kamala, south, to Karon and Kata got pleasantly detoured at HUA BEACH!
A thought popped into my mind based on a few chats I’ve had over the last few days and weeks while interfacing with Expats. The thought of what I view as “intentional drama”. I noticed this behavior with Expats in Mexico, the Philippines as well as Thailand and it gave me pause and created some degree of empathy for the folks that seem to be fueled by negative thoughts and discussions. SO, I just thought I’d share some thoughts… along with a TON more beauty that is the ever-expanding discovery of AWESOME here in Phuket… One beach at a Time!

With the previous success of the Drive’n’Chat videos I was able to to by strapping the GoPro Hero 9 Black on to my motorbike and just cruising around, I thought I’d do some more of that while here in Phuket.
On this

Phuket is REEEEALLY starting to become a VERY happy place for me. PLUS, it is one of the few places where entering the Kingdom of Thailand and Quarantining, could be a very strong option for when Gracie will come here, AND where I might return to if/when I exit Thailand to explore other parts of the world.
The good (read as: GREAT) news is that Thailand seems to be on a trajectory of “opening”. Visa exempt arrival is now (as of ~12-dec-2020) allowed for passport holders of the 56 countries that have been able to enter this way. There is still the “14 day quarantine” requirement but there is discussion that this coming week will bring the addition of 15 days to the 30 day (visa exempt) entry stamp. Allowing for 45 days in country. This 45 day “window” has been a time when “longer-term” stayers will then go to Thai Immigration and pay the 1900 THB to extend for another 30 days.

Good news seems to be in the future for MANY!

As mentioned in earlier videos, I LOVE a good, long “walking beach” and Kamala Beach here in Phuket is definitely one of those.
ESPECIALLY at low(ish) tide. Walking right at water’s edge the simple word that kept popping into my mind was, PERFECT.
I’ve had a few of those moments just in the couple days I’ve been to Phuket this time.
So, thought I’d see how long it takes me to get from one end to the other, time it, and chat with you guys.

During my trip to Phuket this December (2020) I rented a motorbike and just started cruising south, down the coast from my hotel in Kamala.
There are some gorgeous views and plenty of places where you have the beach all to yourself. Patong beach, even during the 2 times I’ve been here this year: July and December has never been COMPLETELY Empty BUT it certainly is NOT the level of crowded and any of you might have experienced in past Decembers.
So, I decided to just park the bike and go for a bit of a walk and thought I’d share some thoughts.

One of my final trips via the Air Asia Unlimited Pass is to the awesome island of Phuket. Koh Phuket, really. But, rarely referred to as that… For most of the world, it’s just Phuket. The largest of the Thai islands.
During the Covidity, this VERY Foreign-Tourist based economy is suffering and sadly several businesses are closed up.
I’m sure my vacationing and spending don’t really add up to much but I’m sure it’s better than nothing.
For me, I get to enjoy these beaches the way they were probably about 30+ years ago: empty, quiet, clean… Amazing!

A friend of mine messaged me the other day – offering up what he called a “GREAT PIZZA” in Bangkok. If you don’t know, really GOOD Pizza is not easy to find in Thailand. HOWEVER, Bangkok being the EPIC city that it is, finding decent pizza is actually not the chore it once was.
Whenever I make new acquaintances that have been living in Bangkok for a while, I will usually ask them “Where is some of the best Pizza?”
