We’ll start out with a quick look at the super-quiet street we get to live on here in Bang Po Beach, Ko Samui. We’ve been in the house almost 2 weeks now and its DEFINITELY been an awesome place for MANY reasons.
Not the least of which is the 2 minute walk, down a nice little street to a HUGE beach that takes me about 2 hours to walk from one end to the other and back. AWESOME!
I think we will likely end up “living here” for a few months.
BUT, first, we DO need to figure out how to get out stuff from Bangkok down here to ‘Samui.
I found a place for 13,000 they will take a pickup truck with the cover on the back from BKK to Ko Samui, including the ferry ride. Same Day! AWESOME.
So, its just a matter of logistics. I do like living in Bangkok BUT Ko Samui is definitely pretty awesome. STILL I think being “based” in Bangkok has its advantages. Should we keep the place in Bangkok and “vacation” in Samui? …as well as everywhere else we’ve had the opportunity to explore!
Its a tough call.
Gracie and I need to go to Koh Phangan for a similar amount of time (about 2 weeks) and see what the difference feels like.
OR… do we get a place in Samui and vacation in Phangan?

After the Big Stone Hands we thought it only fitting that we venture to a place where more “hands” were made out of stone. What better place to have that than a View Point with almost a 360 degree view around Ko Samui AND dinosaur statues. Well, DUH!!! Obviously. As you might guess, because of Covid and the travel restrictions, many places are still closed/empty. Even with domestic travel, weekdays still yield sparse of even fully empty locations. This “Sea View Restaurant” in the Na Mueang sub district (simply “up the mountain a bit more”) gave us all we needed for some cool photos. PLUS the mountain tops motivated me to engage in some chatter about RF and the peaks I’d fantasize about having a broadcast tower… ahhhh to dream!
Thanks for watching.

As I will sometimes do, I just open up Google Maps on my phone and look around and if I see something interesting, we go. Today, that “interesting thing” was “BIG STONE HANDS”. I thought to myself, “HUH!!??”. So… off we went. When we arrived Gracie and I went off in separate directions, phones/camera in hand, and began our respective versions of exploring.
SO, thanks for joining this walk.

As part of our “Thailand Road Trip ver 3.0” Gracie and I kept driving south from Cha-Am to several points along the coast, ending up in Donsak. As many of you might know, the Donsak pier is where the ferries to Ko Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao leave from.
There are two main piers: the “SEATRAN Pier” and the “RAJA Ferry Pier”
I have only taken SEATRAN to/from Ko Samui and RAJA to/from Koh Phangan. It wasn’t really by design, it just turned out that each time I flew to Surat Thani and then took a shuttle to Donsak, those were the respective ferry companies that I ended up taking.
SEATRAN is definitely my preferred company. Overall they have better infrastructure (Pier facilities, the boats’ age and condition) and far better customer service in my experience.
SO, this trip to Ko Samui, we purchased 2 ferry tickets, plus car. The total came to 800 THB. Arriving at the ferry port, we were told we needed to get a Swab Test. We parked the car and walked over to an specific building for this. There were medical staff and administrators that were VERY nice, provided great customer service and had our NEGATIVE (whew) test results for us quicker than I could say, “Cat in the Hat” 😉
We stayed at a resort I have stayed at a few times. LIPA BAY RESORT. As the name suggests, its on Lipa Bay, and thus, just south of the Nathon Pier so, an easy commute.
The next morning I found this place on AirBnB so wanted to shoot this video and give you some idea of the BARGAINS available right now. Keep in mind it is about the 2nd week in October of 2021. The result of the travel restrictions have resulted in close to ZERO tourists.
This house is just one example of a house easily available for rent in Samui (and well as Phangan)
If you don’t want to watch the whole video, the cost via AirBnB ended up being 1255 THB ($37.75) for 3 nights or about $12.60/night.
I have a word to describe 2 story houses that rent for $12.60 a night: F R E E!!!

At the request of a few of you, I pulled out the end of the previous video’s topic: Needs vs. Wants.
I agree, its a good discussion on its own. Definitely GRATITUDE ATTACK worthy all on its own.
Enjoy,
