Greetings my friends!
Here we are, starting off the first full week of JULY 2020. Thailand is in Stage 5 which means the largest “relaxing” of rules here in The Kingdom and arguable have leg to Thailand’s wild success with containing the Corona Virus / COVID-19.
Last week I got to do some domestic travel down to Koh Samui (Samui Island). It was my first time there and it was AWESOME!!! I stayed over 10 days and loved it.
While a LOT of the travel was last minute (e.g. I didn’t even buy my return plane ticket until I was in the mini-van heading back to the Surat Thani airport from the Donsak (SEATRAN) Ferry Pier.
Travel is still VERY light, accommodations are VERY vacant, especially during the week.
SO, where am I off to this week!!???

“North of the harbor is a Chinese Temple known as Saan Chao Pho Khao Yai or Shrine of the Father Spirit of the Great Hill. Discovered during the Ming Dynasty by Chinese seafarers it still attracts thousands of Chinese pilgrims from Thailand and across Asia. The temple gets especially busy during Chinese New Year when boatloads of Chinese Buddhists attend on pilgrimage. The Father Spirit is a large rock inside a cave that has naturally worn into the shape of a human figure.
Other shrines within the temple are dedicated to the famous monkey that accompanied Hsuan Tsang during his pilgrimage from China to India during the seventh century and Guan Yin ‘The Goddess of Mercy’.

Next to the temple is a steep pathway with over 500 steps leading to another magnificent shrine housing a copy of the Buddha’s footprint. There are panoramic views from the shrine across the island and the sea towards the mainland.

In this video, Gracie and I make it to THE TOP of the highest point of the island of Sichang. Past the Chinese Temple. Past Buddha’s Footprint!
We met up with a great Thai gentleman who thru the magic of Google Translate, we were able to communcate and he was able to further educate me on the ways of giving merit as well as some traditional Thai Buddhist praying.
As promised, Gracie and I “ring the bell three times to let the mountain Gods know you’ve arrived…” IT WAS AWESOME!!!

Just a quick upload to share some of my thoughts around the Gratitide I have for One More Day alive and one more day here in the paradise that is Thailand.
Ban Tai Beach was a random stop I made while heading down the road on the Motorbike, in the way to one of the many Wats (temples) here on Koh Samui.

What a gift this life is, right now… I guess that’s why they call it The Present.
